12 day expedition to the highest waterfalls in the world, the mountainous land of coffee and deep into the Amazon jungle

Lima - chachapoyas - gocta and Yumbilla waterfall - kuelap - karajia - tarapoto - Laguna azul - Iquitos - lima

Peru is a fascinating combination of Inca history, colonial heritage and wildlife. The journey begins in Lima and we fly north to Chachapoyas, where the mighty waterfalls are hidden – Gocta (771 m, 15th highest in the world) and the lesser known but higher Yumbilla (895 m, 5th highest in the world). Nearby is the mysterious fortress of Kuelap, often compared to Machu Picchu, although older and less crowded. Further east lies Tarapoto, the tropical city of Selva Alta, from where you can easily reach the picturesque Ahuashiyacu waterfall and Laguna Azul – a fabulous lake surrounded by lush vegetation. It is the perfect place to relax, swim and admire the sunset from a hammock over the water. You can also try local cuisine here and visit nearby cocoa and coffee plantations. In Iquitos, the largest city in the world without road access, a real adventure on the Amazon begins – encounters with pink dolphins, monkeys and exotic birds. We will embark on a two-day jungle safari, where we will explore the Amazonian forest both during the day and at night. We plan to fish for piranhas, track wildlife, observe birds at dawn and learn about medicinal plants. We will spend the night deep in the Amazon, surrounded by the sounds of the tropical forest.
